The "Holy Thorn" as found on Wearyall Hill,
(overlooking the A39 road into Glastonbury) said to be
a descendant of the original thorn as planted by Joseph of Arimathea.
Cuttings from this tree, now grown to full size, can be found in the grounds
of Glastonbury Abbey and St Johns Church.
Glastonbury Tor and the Holy Thorn are both places of pilgrimage. |
| Since Ancient Times the "Tor" has drawn people to it, standing out above the mists and watery lands over the Somerset Levels. The healing powers of the springs rising in this area are legendary. The chalybeate spring at the Chalice Well garden has never been known to fail. People in ancient times saw wells as gateways to the spirit world where the veils between human existence and the divine became thinner and communication could take place with the goods or spirits of the old nature religions. Chalice Well garden is still a wonderful place to meditate. | |
